Adele Wasn’t The Only Person To Say No To Band Aid
Fuse ODG has spoken out about why he turned down the offer...
In an incredibly eloquent article for the Guardian, Fuse ODG has spoken out about why he turned down the chance to lend his lyrics to Band Aid 30, alongside the likes of Ed Sheeran and Bono.
The musician, who has Ghanaian roots, has said that some of the new lyrics in ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’ paint a negative picture of West Africa, something that Fuse has worked hard to get rid of.
Turned off by the lyrics “There is no peace and joy in West Africa this Christmas”, Fuse writes, “I, like many others, am sick of the whole concept of Africa – a resource-rich continent with unbridled potential – always being seen as diseased, infested and poverty-stricken”.
The news comes after Adele supposedly ignored Bob Geldof’s invitation to join the Band Aid 30 crew, choosing to donate instead. Shunning the “warm fuzzy feeling” that people supposedly get from buying Band Aid 30, Fuse has announced that he will be donating the proceeds from his next single to help tackle the Ebola crisis.
