Dua Lipa and Gallant Honour Amy Winehouse With Amazing 'Tears Dry On Their Own' Cover
The iconic singer would have celebrated her 34th birthday today...
Gallant and Dua Lipa have paid tribute to the late Amy Winehouse on her birthday in the best way possible.
The legendary 'Back to Black' singer would have celebrated her 34th birthday today, so to honour her legacy the two artists have teamed up to perform her classic 'Tears Dry On Their Own'.
The performance is the sixth instalment of Gallant's In The Room series, and Dua's soulful voice compliments his incredible vocals just perfectly on Winehouse's song.
Is a darkness that we know
And this regret I got accustomed to
Once it was so right
When we were at our high
Waiting for you in the hotel at night
I knew I hadn't met my match
But every moment we could snatch
I don't know why I got so attached
It's my responsibility
And you don't owe nothing to me
But to walk away I have no capacity
He walks away
The sun goes down
He takes the day, but I'm grown
And in your way
In this blue shade
My tears dry on their own
I don't understand
Why do I stress the man?
When there's so many bigger things at hand
We coulda never had it all
We had to hit a wall
So this is inevitable withdrawal
Even if I stopped wanting you
A perspective pushes through
I'll be some next man's other woman soon
I cannot play myself again
I should just be my own best friend
Not fuck myself in the head with stupid men
He walks away
The sun goes down
He takes the day, but I'm grown
And in your way
In this blue shade
My tears dry on their own
So we are history
Your shadow covers me
The sky above ablaze
He walks away
The sun goes down
He takes the day, but I'm grown
And in your way
In this blue shade
My tears dry on their own
I wish I could say no regrets
And no emotional debts
'Cause as we kissed goodbye, the sun sets
So we are history
The shadow covers me
The sky above, a blaze
Only lovers see
He walks away
The sun goes down
He takes the day, but I'm grown
And in your way
My blue shade
My tears dry on their own
Whoa, he walks away
The sun goes down
He takes the day, but I am grown
And in your way
My deep shade
My tears dry on their own
He walks away
The sun goes down
He takes the day, but I'm grown
And in your way
My deep shade
My tears dry
'Tears Dry On Their Own' was the fourth single from to be released from Amy's second album in 2007 and became her fourth consecutive Top 20 single.
We can imagine covering a singer like her is daunting for anyone but Dua and Gallant's laidback rendition completely does 'Tears' justice, and we'd like to think she'd approve of their performance.
If they were nervous then it's certainly not obvious, as the video shows Gallant calmly planning the more 'neo-soul' arrangement before vibing out with Dua.
Gallant's In The Room series first debuted in January 2016 and has featured other incredible performances with Sufjan Stevenes, Seal, John Legend and Jack Garratt.
The 'Weight In Gold' singer's brilliant debut album Ology was released last spring and hearing his voice take on a new song just makes us want new music from him now, so hopefully he won't make us wait too long.
Happy birthday, Amy. ❤️

Talkin' in my sleep at night, makin' myself crazy
(Out of my mind, out of my mind)
Wrote it down and read it out, hopin' it would save me
(Too many times, too many times)
My love
He makes me feel like nobody else, nobody else
But, my love
He doesn't love me, so I tell myself, I tell myself
One: Don't pick up the phone
You know he's only callin' 'cause he's drunk and alone
Two: Don't let him in
You have to kick him out again
Three: Don't be his friend
You know you're gonna wake up in his bed in the mornin'
And if you're under him, you ain't gettin' over him
I got new rules; I count 'em
I got new rules; I count 'em
I gotta tell them to myself
I got new rules; I count 'em
I gotta tell them to myself
I keep pushin' forwards, but he keeps pullin' me backwards
(Nowhere to turn) No way
(Nowhere to turn) No
Now I'm standin' back from it, I finally see the pattern
(I never learn, I never learn)
But, my love (Love)
He doesn't love me, so I tell myself
I tell myself, I do, I do, I do
One: Don't pick up the phone
You know he's only callin' 'cause he's drunk and alone
Two: Don't let him in
You have to kick him out again
Three: Don't be his friend
You know you're gonna wake up in his bed in the morning
And if you're under him, you ain't gettin' over him
I got new rules; I count 'em
I got new rules; I count 'em
I gotta tell them to myself
I got new rules; I count 'em
I gotta tell them to myself
Practice makes perfect
I'm still tryna learn it by heart
(I got new rules, I count 'em)
Eat, sleep and breathe it
Rehearse and repeat it, 'cause I
(I got new, I got new, I...)
One: Don't pick up the phone
You know he's only callin'
'Cause he's drunk and alone (Yeah, alone)
Two: Don't let him in
You have to kick him out again (Oh, ooh)
Three: Don't be his friend (Again)
You know you're gonna wake up
In his bed in the mornin' (Bed in the mornin')
And if you're under him, you ain't gettin' over him
I got new rules; I count 'em
I got new rules; I count 'em
(Whoa-ooh, whoa, whoa)
I gotta tell them to myself
I got new rules; I count 'em
(Baby, you know I count 'em)
I gotta tell them to myself
Don't let him in, don't let him in
Don't, don't, don't, don't
Don't be his friend, don't be his friend
Don't, don't, don't, don't
Don't let him in, don't let him in
Don't, don't, don't, don't
Don't be his friend, don't be his friend
Don't, don't, don't, don't
You gettin' over him
