Glitter Guilty Of Child Abuse
Disgraced singer jailed for three years by Vietnamese court...
Gary Glitter has been jailed for three years by a Vietnamese court for sexually abusing two young girls.
The former glam rocker " real name Paul Gadd " was found guilty of molesting the girls, aged 11 and 12, at his home in southern Vietnam. In sentencing, Judge Hoang Thanh Tung said: "His lewd acts have compromised the dignity of the Vietnamese people, law and common sense, and therefore it is necessary to punish him."
Once he has served his sentence he will be deported - probably back to the UK, where he may face further charges. He was also ordered to pay a £180 fine to the families of his victims.
But Glitter insisted he was innocent, claiming that British newspapers had conspired against him. Legal experts suggest he could serve as little as a third of his sentence, and since he has already been in custody for four months he could be free by the end of the year.
