YO! MTV RAPS IS BACK
Even if it is only on a new range of shoes & shirts.
Puma are honouring the ground-breaking show Yo! MTV Raps- famous for capturing the golden age of hip hop " and some of the legendary rap stars of the time such as Big Daddy Kane and Doug E Fresh in a spanking new line of trainers and tops.
The rappers helped out with the designs, which aim to capture their style (check out the killer gold chain on the BDK shoes!).
As always MTV News have to be first on the scene so we hopped on the Eurostar to Paris for the Yo! Puma launch party where we witnessed an amazing old school set by Doug E Fresh and the awesome DJ Cash Money.
Speaking to Rickie backstage Doug spoke of YO! MTV Raps place in hip hop history: it was the gateway for our music, and we didnt have to sacrifice our integrity to be part of the world. The world wanted to see us and we just made sure they saw us correctly said Fresh.
He continued What Doctor Dre, Ed Lover, Fab Five Freddie and all those dudes did was give us a platform to show who we really were, and in return we gave them excitement and hype. To be honest, we had no idea the impact we were making.
When asked about the state of hip hop these days, Doug somewhat surprisingly said he thinks its very much alive, using the 50/Kanye battle as an example: Its hip hop, its creativity, and I think its better to go up against each other with records than have an argument or want to kill each other. He continued Its good clean publicity. Its not about someone getting stabbed or robbed.
