They married in Venice and he's got a beautiful house in the Italian Lakes, but George Clooney and his new wife Amal Alamuddin are reported to be honeymooning somewhere rather less glam.

claims that the high-profile duo have been sharing the start of their married life together in Berkshire.

Although the slight catch to the story is that George is reported to have bought Amal a £5m mansion - in which they're currently relaxing with just the occasional dog walk to stretch their legs.

A source told the tabloid: "George has all the money in the world but wanted to give Amal something special to mark their marriage.

"Buying her a house must be up there with the most expensive wedding gifts in history, but the thought behind it was to give them a proper place to call home in the future.

"George will still travel the world for his movies, but they intend for this to be their British base. They want it to be the place where they bring up a family. They have already talked about having kids.

"The fact they have barely left the house so far other than to walk the dogs implies they're keen to get cracking."

And while George has reported opened his wallet wide for Amal's gift, she treated her new husband to a pair of spaniels!
