1) For those who don’t know about you and your music, tell us a little bit about who you are and where you’re from…

We're Formation, a five piece band from London. We are Matt Ritson, Jonny Tams, Sasha Lewis, Kai Akinde-Hummel and Will Ritson. We're different.

2) Describe your sound in three words…

Groove, power, know-how.

3) Who inspired you to start a career in music?

In short I guess life inspired it. For us music just had to happen, from an early age being able to do this is something we've all had to fight for and we'll never stop.

4) Who are your biggest musical influences?

Probably each other, when you look into it, there's a lot of talent in this band. Whether it's Jonny working on Bjork records or Matt's photography there's a lot of history between us.

5) Tell us about the writing and recording process for your newalbum…

Our debut album 'Look At The Powerful People'was recorded and co-produced by the legendary house producer Leon Vynehall and engineer Ben Baptie (Adele/The Strokes/The Growlers). It's the culmination of three years of songwriting in our studio and working the bugs out on tour.

6) What can we expect from your live shows?

POWER.

7) What has been your biggest career highlight so far?

We've had a few; supporting Faithless at Brixton Academy was a pretty big deal for us. But I think releasing our debut album will be a real marker for this band to tell the world we're here!

8) Have you met anyone and been totally starstruck?

We met Beyoncé once, I think she get's it.

9) What’s on your iPod/playlists that people wouldn’t expect?

I don't think a lot of people have an appreciation of great metal bands. So I guess having some Lamb Of God or Power Trip on their would be unexpected, but that's how we roll most of the time.
