Meet VanJess -Ivana and Jessica Nwokike, two sisters bringing a whole new outlook on what it meansto be R&B artist today.

Earlier this year they dropped their debut album 'Silk Canvas', a 14-track vibe fest ranging from the sultry 'Addicted' to theGoldLink-featuring electro bop 'Through Enough'.

We're listening and we're loving, so we caught five with the duo in this week's introducing Get To Know interview...

1) For those who don’t know about you and your music, tell us a little bit about who you are and where you’re from…

"We’re based in California, sisters not twins and 15 months apart, and we make soulful, sensual and at times energetic R&B."

2) Describe your sound in three words…

"Kind of did in the previous question but we will give 3 more!
- Sultry
- Feel- good
- Musicality"

3) Who inspired you to start a career in music?

Jess: "No one particularly did. Of course we idolized certain artists but it just came natural because we both love not only making music but performing it are such music fans.For us it really is a hobby that became a full time thing."

4) Who are your biggest musical influences?

Ivana: "So inspired by Janet Jackson and Michael Jackson. SWV, Zhané, TLC, Aaliyah, these artists really had a huge effect on the way I create music."

Jess: "For me it’s pretty similar, I’d just add that also been inspired by singer songwriters like Amy Winehouse and Corinne Bailey Rae."

5) Tell us about the writing and recording process for your new single/album…

Ivana: "It wasn’t exactly a process because the intent was never to create an album, we started writing some of the best songs we ever had and the music started to tell a story that made sense as an album."

Jess: "I think within that though every song Ivana and I wrote together, then we’d go in and come up with vocal arrangements just from vibing and free styling. Nothing was planned and I think that’s what made it so special."

6) What can we expect from your live shows?

"Definitely a mixture of vocal centric performances and a lot of energy. We like to really sing but we are so goofy as people that we end up going crazy on stage sometimes, it’s fun."

7) What has been your biggest career highlight so far?

"Releasing this album because even that was something we truly never thought was possible for us to do."

8) Have you met anyone and been totally starstruck?

Jess: "I was pretty starstruck when we met Mark Ronson 'cuz I’ve been a fan since I was a kid. I remember before shaking his hand I dropped my water bottle!But it ended up being fine after..."

Ivana:"Probably not 'till we meet Drake."

9) What’s on your iPod/playlists that people wouldn’t expect?

Jess: Enya and all kinds of rock songs. classic and new.

Ivana: I listen to a lot of Trippie Redd.

10) When can we see you live?

"We are currently on tour in the US with our good friend, Masego!"
