There Are Female Ghostbusters Now – So What’s All The Fuss About?!

Your sexism is showing.

More than thirty years after Bill Murray and his gang of jumpsuit-clad ghoul-hunters saved the world from a giant Marshmallow Man, the Ghostbusters are making their long-awaited return to the big screen.

Unless you’ve been locked in a bunker Kimmy-Schmidt-style for the last few months, it’s pretty likely that you’ll have heard about the new Ghostbusters reboot.

Like all massive blockbuster remakes, it’s been hitting the headlines and garnering a fair bit of buzz, but it’s not just all about plot leaks and fan excitement. It’s because its lead actors are all women.

Yup. The world is losing its collective mind because ladies have been cast as Ghostbusters. Not just any ladies either – Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon are officially four of the funniest people in the world right now.

Fans seem unconcerned about the reboot itself – after all, a huge number of Hollywood’s biggest releases are reboots these days – but instead are utterly convinced that the film will be terrible and an insult to the originals simply because women are taking on the lead roles.

Sorry everyone, your deep-rooted sexism is showing.

The overwhelming barrage of hatred this movie received before we’d even seen the first trailer was astounding. And while we’re on the topic of that trailer, it’s currently the most disliked film preview on YouTube, with more than 900,000 big red thumbs down.

And y’know what, 900,000 dislikes would probably be fine if it was a video of someone saying mean things to a baby or a lonely puppy. But instead, it’s a 3-minute film trailer. And it still pushed people to say things like this:

If you’re thinking they don’t seem too bad, please note that Sony has already had to delete countless vile, misogynistic comments.

Unfortunately for these men (and don’t come at us with your ‘not all men,’ we know its not ALL men, but it is predominantly blokes who have such a huge problem with the remake) and their fragile egos, however, the reviews are in. And people are loving the new Ghostbusters.

This has displeased the whingy man-babies so much that they’ve resorted to setting up reddit threads dedicated to removing any positive review from the internet. That’s not an exaggeration.

There’s a simple fix here: if you don’t like a movie, or even the idea of a movie, don’t go see it. Watch Netflix, play Pokémon Go, go shopping for a new trilby. Just don’t waste your time and energy hating.

And as for all the ‘ruined childhood’ complaints? Maybe it’s not about your childhood anymore. Maybe it’s about all the young girls who get to see multiple women kicking ass and taking names in a major Hollywood blockbuster, and not just playing someone’s wife or girlfriend...
