Fans Accuse Vogue Italia Of Darkening Gigi Hadid’s Skin Tone In Latest Cover Shoot
People have spotted a noticeable difference in the model's skin tone.
Gigi Hadid’s latest magazine cover has come in for criticism online after fans pointed out that the model’s skin tone looks noticeably darker in the Vogue Italia photoshoot than it does IRL.
The cover features the 23-year-old wearing a crown and a Dolce & Gabbana jumpsuit while sitting on model Justin Martin’s lap, but the on-point styling choices aren’t what most people are talking about on social-media.

After an image of the May cover was posted on Instagram, it didn’t take long for fans to spot that the editing of the shot had resulted in some variation of the model’s natural skin tone.
"Unrecognizable.. curious w/ the whole story," one fan responded, as another said that the final shot makes Gigi look like a “completely” different race: "Is she suppose to look “ethnic” cause no... lmao."
Others came to her defense, writing: "Haters gonna hate hate hate" and pointing out that Gigi herself probably doesn’t have a say over how the final shot is edited: "She's just doing her job. Love it! @gigihadid.”
While she's yet to comment on the discussion around the image, Gigi did previously share a shot of the magazine cover with the comment: “Excited, honored, and grateful to cover @VogueItalia’s May Issue.'
“Thank you so so much for an amazing shoot,” she wrote. “I am forever inspired by you all !!! & can’t wait to share the full story !! x”
We’ll keep you updated if either Gigi or Vogue Italia make a comment about the editing of the image. In the meantime, send us your thoughts on this with a tweet @MTVUK.
