Godzilla is seen laying waste to a city in the latest trailer for the eagerly awaited reboot movie featuring the iconic Japanese monster.

The fearsome beast is seen advancing through the unnamed metropolis - suggested as Las Vegas by some fans - and glimpses of the monster are interspersed with screaming citizens, soldiers and shots of the damage that has been caused.

Titled "Courage", the trailer is overlaid with a speech given to military personnel by a worried-sounding leader, urging the troops to stay strong in the face of the unknown enemy.

Starring Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Sally Hawkins and Elizabeth Olsen among others - the eagerly awaited update on the classic monster movie is directed by Briton Gareth Edwards.

And the filmmaker has previously hinted that the movie will contain other giant monsters from the old Godzilla movies.

The film is set for release on 15 May in the UK.
