The third LP by the cartoon band was released back in March, but failed to hit the top spot after the Irish manband’s comeback disc unexpectedly sold more.
Albarn admitted: “I was a bit f**king gutted that Plastic Beach only got to two in America. And I was obviously a bit gutted that it only got to two in England. Against f**king Boyzone!
“But at the end of the day it’s OK. I’ve had a lot of successful number twos over the years.”
Gorillaz will next release a non-Plastic Beach single called Doncamatic. The band plus assorted guests- likely to include Kano, Bashy, Daley and De La Soul- will also play UK arena dates next month.
