[related]Batman fans can finally get afirst look at Channel 5's gritty new prequel series, Gotham.

The three minute clip introduces the show, which stars The O.C's Ben McKenzie as beloved comic book copper Jim Gordon - a role made famous in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy by none other than Gary Oldman.

Far from being a wise old soul at the right hand of the Caped Crusader, though, McKenzie's Gordon must content with a Gotham that's ruled by criminals and gangsters. The Gotham that existed before a billionaire vigilante decided to save his city.

The series will see Gordon team up with equally legendary detective Harvey Bullock - a man who operates in the grey areas between clean and corrupt - as they contend with the gritty underbelly of Gotham.

Also appearing will of course be many of DC Comics' greatest villains - from the Penguin to Catwoman, the Riddler and Poison Ivy - as well as new characters such as Jada Pinkett Smith's mob boss, Fish Mooney.

David Mazouz, meanwhile, will take on the fabled role of young orphan Bruce Wayne who's watched over by loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth, played by Brit actor Sean Pertwee.

Gotham comes to Channel 5 and Demand 5 this autumn.
