With the 58th annual Grammy Awards ceremony set to take place on Monday (15th February), here at MTV, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to flashback to some of the most iconic moments... hey, it is Friday after all!
So, from Michael Jackson's domination of the 1984 bash, to the time Eminem and Elton John put their differences aside to perform Stan, it's safe to say the Grammys is not without it's controversy.
Jennifer Lopez left little to the imagination on the red carpet in 2000 thanks to THAT Versace dress, while Wu-Tang Clan’s Ol’ Dirty Bastard, 50 Cent and Kanye West proved that it's the stars of Hip-Hop who are the REAL divas.

1984 belonged to the King of Pop Michael Jackson. Not only did he win EIGHT trophies, he also delivered one of the performances of his career with Thriller. -
Will Smith, Public Enemy, Salt-N-Pepa and Russell Simmons decided to boycott The Grammys in 1989 over the show’s decision not to air Hip-Hop categories. -
In 1990, Milli Vanilli caused a stir after winning the Grammy for Best New Artist - but it was later revealed they never actually sung on their debut album. Whoops… -
Flashback to the moment in 1998 when topless protestor Michael Portnoy gatecrashed Bob Dylan’s performance of Love Sick, with the words SOY BOMB written on his chest. -
That same year, Wu Tang Clan’s Ol’ Dirty Bastard invaded the stage after losing out to P Diddy in the Best Rap Album category. -
Back in 2000, Jennifer Lopez arrived at the bash with then-boyfriend P Diddy, stunning viewers by sporting a sheer, sarong-like Versace dress which was slashed to the navel. -
In 2001, controversial rapper Eminem - who faced criticism for his homophobic lyrics - was joined on stage by Elton John, where they performed Stan. -
2002 was the year that Christina Aguilera, Mya, Lil Kim and Pink stole the show with their super sexy performance of Lady Marmalade. -
In 2004, 50 Cent staged a protest after losing out to Evanescence in the Best New Artist category by storming the stage during their acceptance speech. -
The time when Kanye West won Best Rap Album in 2005 and then gave a typically egotistical speech about how everyone thought he would kick off if he didn’t take home the gong. -
2008 saw Nas and then-wife Kelis become the talk of tinseltown after walking the red carpet in these rather controversial matching outfits. -
In 2009, Jennifer Hudson made her first public appearance since her family’s tragic murder, with her emotional performance of You Pulled Me Through leaving many wondering if it was too much for the star. -
Back in 2010, before THAT Harry Styles romance, Taylor Swift performed 'Rhiannon' with Stevie Nicks, and thanks to a technical issue, she didn’t exactly sound her best. -
At the ceremony back in 2011, Lady Gaga arrived in an egg which she later hatched out of during her performance of Born This Way. -
2012 saw The Grammys mourn legend Whitney Houston, who tragically passed away the day before the ceremony. -
Not one to shy away from the limelight, Nicki Minaj arrived at 2012’s ceremony with an actor dressed as the Pope as her date. She later went on to perform an ‘exorcism’ on stage. -
2013 saw Brown and Rihanna return to the Grammys together four years after THAT infamous pre-show assault incident. -
That same year, this image emerged of Adele and Chris Brown, with reports suggesting the Someone Like You singer was giving Breezy a telling off after not standing for rival Frank Ocean’s performance. -
In 2014, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis staged a mass marriage ceremony, with the likes of Madonna and Queen Latifah joining in for a rendition of their track Same Love. -
The same year saw Beyoncé and hubby Jay Z stealing the show by putting on a VERY raunchy performance of Drunk In Love.
