Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong Enters Rehab
Rocker seeking treatment for substance abuse after on-stage rant...
As we previously reported, the singer turned the air blue at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas on Saturday (22nd September), after their set was allegedly cut by 20 minutes - with reports suggesting it was to allow more time for Usher.
Armstrong is said to have thrown a tantrum, and shouted: "You're going to give me one minute? One f***ing minute? I've been around since f***ing nineteen eighty f***ing eight and you're going to give me one f***ing minute?
"I'm not f***ing Justin Bieber, you motherf***ers."
He then apparently smashed up his guitar before leaving the stage, with Green Day later issuing a statement to The AP apologising for the episode.
The rocker has since been admitted to a rehab facility to seek treatment for substance abuse, with a message on Green Day's official Facebook page reading: "Billie Joe is seeking treatment for substance abuse.
"We would like everyone to know that our set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologize to those we offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. We regretfully must postpone some of our upcoming promotional appearances."
Earlier this month, Green Day were also forced to cancel a concert in Italy after Armstrong was hospitalised. His bandmates would subsequently tell MTV News that he had "severe dehydration," though he recovered in time to perform at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.
At press time, it's not clear just what appearances will be scrapped in support of the band's ¡Uno! album (out Tuesday), or if Armstrong's treatment will effect Green Day's just-announced tour, which is set to kick off in November.
A rep for the band could not be reached for comment by MTV News.
