Have You Seen The Trailer For The Green Day Documentary Yet?

YES!

Ever wondered what it would be like to hang out in the studio with a world famous rock band? Well, now you can – via a cinema screen at least, as Green Day finally release their 'Heart Like A Hand Grenade'movie, which documents how they wrote and recorded their 2004 mega-smash hit album, 'American Idiot'.

They’ve just put out the trailer for the doc, which was supposedly lost after being shown to a small group of fans back in 2009. Now, the film is getting a full cinematic release from 15th October, and we CANNOT WAIT to see it. It includes the only footage of a full-album performance of 'American Idiot', shot just after it was recorded. Epic.

The trailer gives us a glimpse of Billie Joe Armstrong, Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt working hard in the studio, laying down tracks like ‘Holiday’, ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’, ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends’ and of course the title song, all of which went on to be huge chart hits for the band.

There are even shots of that iconic hand grenade art work being spray painted! We also hear a snippet of Billie Joe calling up the director, John Roecker, and inviting him to come down and film in the studio – who wouldn’t jump at that chance? Roecker spent nine whole months with the band, having been mates with Billie Joe since Green Day’s early shows.

After finding out that the band were going to try something very different with their new album, Roecker suggested that he set up cameras in their studio, but initially Billie J wasn’t keen on the idea:

“I told him he should document the recording of the album and he said they had tried and it never worked. I suggested that he set up tripods around the studio and just have cameras run so it would not be too invasive of the process of the recording (I was hoping he would get my hint!). Then I got a phone call on a Friday night and he said he and the band will be in Los Angeles on Monday and why don’t I be the tripod. Thus began my nine months with Green Day."

Jealous?Us? Never! At least now Green Day fans around the world will get to experience some of that studio magic for themselves. 'Heart Like A Hand Grenade' gets its official premiere in Los Angeles on 8 October, before coming to cinemas the week after.See greenday.com/heartlikeahandgrenade for more.
