MTV EMAs: Green Day Diss Donald Trump During ‘American Idiot’ Performance

Check out the full performance from the iconic group HERE...

With just two days to go before the 2016 American presidential election finally comes to a head, Green Day chose the perfect time to roll out an old hit.

Taking to the stage to accept their Global Icon Award at the MTV EMAs (check out all the best from the event here), the iconic group launched into their decade old, still-very-good 2004 hit ‘American Idiot’. Any guesses for why they rolled out that 'particular' single?

As those famous first chords played out, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong gave‘American Idiot’ a 2016-tweak, as healtered the opening lyrics to: "Can you hear the sound of hysteria? / The subliminal mind-Trump America".

But that wasn’t all. After accepting their award from Idris Elba, better known as LOOOOFFFAAA, Armstrong addressed the forthcoming election. "Most of all, it's nice to be out of America just for a second, because of this horrendous election that's going on right now," Billie Joe said. "Our entire country is about to have one big, collective heart attack."

Green Day’s performance of ‘American Idiot’ at the EMAs is playing above. Make sure you check that out.

This year, the EMA trophies took on a new look, as we paid tribute to Prince by turning them purple. The star died in April, aged 57.
