Guillemots Defend Arctics Against Tourette

Arctic Monkeys "fake"? Tsk!

Mercury Prize nominated band the Guillemots have expressed their disbelief at Towers Of London man Danny Tourette slating the Arctic Monkeys.

Tourette, whose band have not had a Top 20 hit yet, dismissed the Sheffield lads (whose first album became the fastest selling debut in UK chart history) as "manufactured wannabes".

"I can't think of anyone more manufactured than the Towers Of London," Guillemots lead singer Fyfe Dangerfield told MTV.co.uk.

"The Arctics are real. ('Whatever People Say I am That's What I'm Not') was a great album. That energetic style... They were the first band to sing like that and lots of people have followed since," bandmate Greig Stewart added. "I don't think the Arctic Monkeys would go on (Celeb Big Brother)."

So, could this turn into the first big indie spat of 2007? Fyfe doesn't think so. "I don't think Arctics will be bothered to even come up with a response to it."

Hear, hear!

Guillemots' new single, 'Annie, Let's Not Wait', hits the shelves on January 15.
