‘Harry Potter And The Cursed Child’ Play Casts Black Actress As Hermione Granger
Well this is awesome.
It’s safe to say that there’s a LOT of people who are excited for J.K Rowling’s London play 'Harry Potter And The Cursed Child'.
But now that the main cast has been officially announced, we’re pretty sure that June 2016 can’t come fast enough, because it’s suitably amazing.
Olivier award-winning Noma Dumezweni has landed the huge role of Hermione Granger – and yep, she’s black.
She’ll be joining Paul Thornley who is playing Ron Weasley, and Jamie Parker who has been cast as actual Harry Potter.
Not bad for the ol’ CV, eh?
Now, while most people just got excited about the fact that the Potter spin-off is taking shape, others just HAD to hop online and complain about Hermione’s skin colour.
Luckily, J.K herself was on hand to deal with the faux-outraged, and delivered this perfect tweet…
Even if Rowling HAD detailed the character as white in the books, it literally doesn’t matter.
Anyone complaining about this ‘unrealistic’ turn of events should probably just go ahead and start thinking about the fact that this entire franchise is based on a WORLD FULL OF WIZARDS.
Pick your battles, people.
