Someone Leaked An Unannounced Harry Potter Game And The Internet Is Going Wild
Footage of a new, unannounced Harry Potter game leaked onto the internet.
The footage came to light on Reddit, when a user posted the never-before-seen video after catching the teaser in market research.
The Redditor said the accompanying text described a darker story than we're used to in the Harry Potter universe, set in the 1800s and giving you the ability to curse "dark wizards" and "goblins"... and maybe even kill them, too.
"Do you think a random internet stoner would have the skills and patience to create this video?" he asked when people accused him of making it up.
Since then the video has been deleted - adding more fuel to the speculation fires, of course - but people had already ripped the video and put up mirrors of the cam footage before it was pulled by Warner Bros.
Our pals at Eurogamer insist "sources with knowledge of the project have confirmed [...] that the project is indeed real and currently in development"... and it appears the game is not being developed by Warner-owned UK studio, Rocksteady.
According to Eurogamer, Avalanche Software - which was bought by Warner Bros. a couple of years ago - began advertising in early 2017 looking to fill positions with people who have a "deep understanding of British culture and grammatical presentation", with a good knowledge of "gaming narrative and branching storytelling, particularly in the realm of RPGs". There have also been other job postings that describe its next project as a "large-scale console game project" and a AAA RPG.
According to the BBC, the game is called Harry Potter Magic Awakened, although the final name has not yet been decided.
