There’s A Harry Potter Theory That Reckons Crookshanks Actually Belonged To The Potter Family

WHUT.

Hold onto your hats and put that bowl of coco pops down, because this fan theory about Harry Potter might a) blow your minds and b) make you want to question everything because CONFUSED.

The theory revolves around Hermione’s cat Crookshanks that she gets in ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,’ and how he might have actually originally belonged to the Potter family. STOP THE WORLD, WE NEED A MOMENT.

In case you’ve forgotten, Harry and Ron weren’t exactly Crookshanks’ biggest fans at the start, but grew to like him after he helps Sirius prove his innocence and stops Harry from trying to murder him.

However, just when we thought we had everything figured out, someone on Quora has posted this theory that Crookshanks is actually Lily Potter’s cat.

The theory reads: “In The Deathly Hallows, when the trio are in Grimmauld Place, Harry reads a letter hand-written by Lily. In the letter, she mentions that they had a cat and that Harry almost ran over it with his toy broomstick. Harry even wonders if it survived the attack by Voldemort and if it was alive.

“In Prisoner of Azkaban, the owner at Magical Menagerie from where Hermione buys Crookshanks tell her that she had had Crookshanks for "quite some time" and that nobody ever wanted him. This could correspond to our earlier timeline where the cat disappeared after Voldemort's attack on the Potters' residence.

“Soon after Crookshanks is bought by Hermione, he quickly recognises Scabbers and the shaggy dog as Peter and Sirius respectively. The fan theory goes that Crookshanks recognized them both because they would have frequently visited Lily and James when he was with them.”

However, as Sugarscape point out, Sirius, who doesn't mention knowing Crookshanks previously, would have known the Potters' cat, andactually talks about having to gain Crookshanks' trust. Oh GAHD.

In conclusion,we're just going to go back to having blissful ignorance about this theory because it's too much to handle. You?
