Hayley Kiyoko and Kehlani Come Together For ‘What I Need’ Music Video
The two runaway to a summer romance...
In spring Hayley Kiyoko worked together with R&B star Kehlani to release ‘What I Need’, which served as the only collaboration on her debut album Expectations. Today, Kiyoko has released the self-directed short film music video for the track, which stars both artists in a runaway fantasy.
BUT FIRST, WATCH HAYLEY'S MTV PUSH EXCLUSIVE LIVE PERFORMANCE OF 'CURIOUS' BELOW:
The video stars both Hayley and Kehlani, at first as platonic friends who run away from home in a beat up old car, but as they spend more time together there is no stopping the romance from brewing – but it’s not long before drama strikes. The whole thing is beautifully crafted from start to finish, masterfully creating the whole story in 5 and a half minutes.
The release date (the 31st of May) comes as no accident, as we’re right on the eve of Pride month. Kiyoko has been at the forefront of an unapologetically queer pop movement, being a big proponent of the #20gayteen movement and this music video, which she not only starred in but ALSO directed, is no exception.

The video's beautifully shot narrative, with a summery runaway vibe suits the oncoming heat so well.
