"I Was Like A Pig In Lipstick!" Holly Hagan Reveals Lipo Temptation
In our exclusive extract from her new book, the 12 Week Body Bible, Geordie Shore star Holly Hagan reveals how she "hit rock bottom" and considered liposuction...
And today, we're giving you a sneak peek inside it.
Having decided not to go down the tried and tested fitness DVD route that achieved huge success for co-stars Charlotte Crosby and Vicky Pattison, Holly's hoping to help people make a lifestyle change that'll last forever.
From step-by-step workout plans to clean eating recipes and motivational, never before seen pictures of Holly throughout her weight loss journey, the book promises to help readers burn fat and begin a new chapter in their lives.
Of course - healthy eating and exercise wasn't the first thing Holly tried. At one point, she was so low, she even considered going under the knife and getting liposuction.
We'll let her tell you the rest in this exclusive extract from the book...
"As most of my fans have noticed, I’ve dropped a considerable amount of weight since my first season on Geordie Shore and Lord knows I needed to. I was heavy, unhealthy, depressed and hated the way I looked, not just on screen but off it too. I was the one who always got the most horrendous insults thrown at me on Twitter and the trolls mainly targeted my weight. All through my life I’ve struggled to be a slim girl but I’ll hold my hands up now and say I struggled because of my poor junk diet. I used every excuse in the book to explain my chubbiness, ‘I have a fat gene’, ‘I’m big boned’, ‘I have a slow metabolism’, ‘I don’t have time to exercise’ blah blah blah.
Until one day, I hit rock bottom and decided enough was enough.
I remember exactly when and where I was when I made the choice to get my big butt into shape. I woke up one morning with a nightmare hangover after a night out in Newcastle. Craving carbs and a sugary drink, I padded downstairs and rummaged through the kitchen cupboards. Grabbing a two litre bottle of coke and a family bag size of Doritos, I headed back to bed to sleep off my horrendous headache, but not before I had a quick scroll through my Twitter feed. I had many notifications, slating my weight which wasn’t unusual, but most people seemed to be tweeting one particular photo. I was in shock when I saw it. The most vile, disgusting, belly-busting photograph I have ever, EVER, seen of myself. I couldn’t quite believe the girl in the photograph was me. I was like a pig in lipstick.
How had this happened? How had I not noticed I’d become so big so quickly? I knew my clothes were fitting slightly tighter, but still - why had no one told me I’d put on this much weight?!
I instantly felt angry at myself. I ran to the bathroom and jumped on the scales. ‘OH MY GOD’ I cried when I saw the numbers tick up to double figures. ‘13 STONE’ and when you think I’m only 5,3’ that‘s a lot of timber to be carrying.
Upset, miserable and feeling low, I decided right then and there I needed to take responsibility for the way I looked. No one could do it for me, I had to face facts. I was FAT.
Believe me when I say I tried every way to cut corners and lose weight but nothing had ever worked, which is when I made the drastic decision to have a consultation for liposuction. When my friends found out, they were horrified. My agent Luke instead set up a meeting with his personal trainer and he made me realise, that before resorting to surgery there was only one thing left to try… hard work and sacrifice. I made the firm decision that day, to forget all the fad diets, the quick fixes, cutting corners, the nonsense body shrinking wraps, the food supplements and all the junk. I would ditch all the excuses and the false explanations. I would finally do the one thing I hadn’t yet tried to get slim… good old-fashioned healthy eating and exercise. I knew it was going to be hard, but anything that’s worth having doesn’t come easy, especially not your dream body.
Throwing away the all the coke and crisps, and deciding to give it my all was the best decision I've ever made. Over the past few months and by using the techniques in this book I’ve managed to transform my body and my life for the better.
Now, I find sticking to my goal weight a complete breeze, because I’ve been educated about fitness and my diet. They say knowledge is power and when it comes to staying in shape, I couldn’t agree more."
Still to come from our exclusive interview this week: Holly discusses the online abuse that spurred her on to get into shape, the attention-seeking behaviour she regrets, and how positivity means more to her these days than what the scales say.
