Hugh Jackman: 'Prisoners Is Like Two Movies In One'

Hugh Jackmanhas described his new movie Prisoners as an "edge-of-your-seat" classic thriller.

 

The 44-year old star plays struggling carpenter Keller Dover in the flick, with things taking a sinister turn on Thanksgiving when his daughter is kidnapped. 

 

Speaking of what sets Prisoners aside from other films of its kind, Jackman exclusively told MTV News UK: "Prisoners is different from the lexicon of sort of revenge thrillers, because I like to think of it as two movies in one. 

 

"It is part who-done-it and edge-of-your-seat sort of classic thriller. You have no idea where it’s ending up.”

 

He continued: "The plot is really sort of engaging and when I saw it with an audience they gasped. People were gripped right till the end. 

 

“But it also keeps you thinking long after the credits roll. That is a rare quality and a difficult thing to pull off."

 

As for his character, which is a world away from his more familiar alter-ego Wolverine, Hugh said Dover is "dark", adding: "He is intense. I am a father myself and I understand where he goes, absolutely. Would I go that far? I don’t know, I doubt it.

 

"You start to feel uncomfortable at times with what the characters are doing. It is morally ambiguous and... I think that's the strength of the movie.”

 

Prisoners has already a successful opening weekend at the US box office, making a cool $21.4m and is due for release in the UK this Friday (September 27).
