Rob Da Bank Interview

We chatted to the DJ and Bestival head honcho at Ibiza Rocks…

Rob Da Bank supported The Prodigy last night as Ibiza Rocks celebrated its fifth birthday in style.
Speaking to MTV Rob praised the island and said it’s not like some people presume.
“It’s sea, sand, sangria, beautiful people but it’s not the clichéd thing that people think it is from reading the British press, there is so much to explore,” he said.
The Radio 1 DJ - who played tracks from Dizzee Rascal and MGMT in his set - explained: “I’ve been coming to Ibiza first about 15 years. The first time was as a music journalist - I was given 50 quid and told to last as long as I could!
“I love the geography of the island, I love sitting on the beach with a bottle of Rose. I love going to Space - it’s amazing. But coming to Ibiza Rocks is a newish thing.”
The pony-tailed decks man also talked about the success of the now half decade old event, telling MTV:
“I remember when they first did it - It was smaller when it was in Bar M but it worked straight away and there’s since been lots of people trying to copy it.
“Before this no one had realised that people wanted to hear Arctic Monkeys and The Prodigy in Ibiza.”
The Prodigy - who played a near two hour set after him - also headline Rob’s Bestival event this September.

“You can’t get a bigger band than The Prodigy,” he said. “They came back with an incredible album - I can’t think of anyone who bridges dance, rock and indie like they do.
“The Prodigy are headlining Bestival so it’s a dream come true here and there. There are very few bands who have as many in your face hits!”
And of course we had to ask if Da Bank was planning any trademark surprises at his festival later this year.
The Radio 1 DJ revealed: “We’ve got some unknown guests booked. We’ve got 2 medium size surprises. I’ve still got a bit of time something will crop up. I’m working on something and I’ve stuck in a couple of curve balls.”
