Iceland Airwaves 2009 Part 3
Crystal Antlers, Sudden Weather Change, Ghostigital and We Made God
Long Beach, California’s Crystal Antlers’ rhythmic post rock filled out Sódóma on the Saturday. The six piece, who specialise in a bongo-heavy funked up lo-fi garage sound (really), raced through tracks from their full length debut album Tentacles as well as a bombastic cover of Dylan’s It’s All Over Now Baby Blue.
Despite appearing to be so young they should probably tucked up at home, Icelandic teens Sudden Weather Change ripped up the moshpit during their set at Sódóma. Their fervent post-hardcore racket, triple frontman attack and a song about hating Nicholas Cage all give them a refreshing edge over the rest of the scene.
Over at Batteríið, Ghostigital laid down some dark, trumpet heavy weirdness. Featuring former Sugercube Einar and producer Curver, the group play music which is abstract and (probably) deliberately confusing – but always interesting.
We Made God rocked the Kerrang! night at Sódóma with an energetic, riff filled screamo set – bringing a stadium sized sound to the small venue.
