I'm A Celebrity: Joey Essex 'Getting Special Treatment'
Grumbles in the jungle as Matthew Wright claims Towie star favoured...
Matthew Wright has alleged that Joey Essex has been given special treatment by producers on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!
The broadcaster, who got the boot from the jungle earlier this week, has told The Sun that the focus is clearly on the young star of The Only Way Is Essex.
He said: "It's all about Joey. It feels like that in the camp.
"We've had three weeks of 'all about Joey', which gets quite boring. Every question I was asked was about Joey. If it was 'How was your dinner?' the next question was 'How was Joey's dinner?'.
"It was pretty obvious and I felt sorry for Kian. It feels like Joey is pre-destined to be a finalist, whereas Kian has to fight his way there. Ultimately, I think that everybody would benefit from Kian as the winner.
"That's not to say Joey doesn't deserve it — but he's got a lot of stuff to learn. He is at the beginning of his career whereas Kian has got the T-shirt."
And Wright, 48, made the scandalous accusation that producers had been free-and-easy with Joey's towel supply - while keeping the rest of the contestants on a tight ration.
"You could see he was being given special treatment. We were only allowed a few towels, but he had as many as he liked. He seemed to be able to ask for them from producers whenever he felt like it and they just dealt them out."
And he claimed that ITV bosses are desperate for Joey to be crowned this year's King of the Jungle.
"The fact is that the odds are tipped against you. They were tipped in favour of Joey from the start. He is only famous because of an ITV2 show so this is a great opportunity for them to cash in on the home-grown talent."
Meanwhile snooker legend Steve Davis has been evicted from the jungle in the latest vote.
And in a move sure to frustrate Wright, he said he'd like Joey to win the series.
"Joey is such a lovely lad," he said. "There's not a bad bone in his body."
