Exclusive: Iskra Lawrence Talks 'Plus-Size' Labelling, Self-Love And Kim Kardashian

Oh and how to take the perfect selfie, obvs.

If you've not heard of Iskra Lawrence, well, you've come to the right place.

The inspiring British model is known for her body positive campaigns, having propelled to fame in the past year after putting an online hater in their rightful place.

So we caught up her recently to find out what she makes of the 'plus-sized' label debate, her loyal army of fans and how it all began.

You recently hit the headlines when you stood up to a troll who on Instagram, what made you want to speak out?

"It was actually one of my followers who DM’d me saying she’d been upset by a nasty comment left on one of my pictures. After reading it I was pissed not because I felt hurt but because it had offended her and I’m sure would upset many others."

"I was on set shooting lingerie at the time I read it so I decided I wanted to make an example of this moment. Turn something negative into a positive. I always want to try and use my platform to help others who may not feel they have a voice, so the video was for everyone who had been body shamed and to show those bullies it’s not ok."

Are there any comments from fans in particular which have stood out to you?

"I’ve been overwhelmed by the support and positive response from everyone. I feel like I’m standing strong with so many people who have been attacked online by trolls. Girl called Michelle said '’@michellefilmer you just made me love myself a lot more’’ and that’s really what I hope I can spread some self-love."

What advice would you give someone who's being bullied for their size?

"You get to decide how you feel about yourself no one else. A jean size, number on a scale or a bully doesn’t decide your self-worth. Because you are more than that and you are a unique gift to the world."

Do you think the likes of Kim Kardashian's naked selfies are for the better?

"Kim has definitely influenced culture by being confident with her curves and showing a different body shape in the media."

Any top tips for the perfect selfie?

"My top selfie tips are 1. Find the best light (ideally natural daylight) 2. Practise with your angles, usually from a slightly higher angle 3. Be confident and smile :)"
