Example Live Review
iTunes Festival, London Roundhouse - 17/09/12
The Roundhouse is just up the road, but Example has come a long way since his days working as an editor at Camden’s MTV Towers.
Tonight - eight years on - he’s packing out one of London’s best venues, debuting songs off his forthcoming fourth album and making the place bounce like kangaroos on an inflatable castle.
After strong support sets from Hadouken! and DJ Fresh, he kicked-off with number 1 single Stay Awake but there was absolutely no chance of anyone falling asleep.
Example was well up for it and so were the crowd, with the energy levels never in danger of dropping.
There was barely a chance to catch breath between tracks as the singer-rapper reminded everyone again and again “the whole world is watching” live on iTunes.
And he really wasn’t happy with the “corporate f**kers” sitting down upstairs, goading them for looking “like dickheads” to the amusement of his fans who were standing.
But by the end – as he predicted – they were all on their feet and probably wishing they were with the teenage lads sweating like pregnant nuns in the pit.
Example didn’t leave any of his big hits off his setlist, while current single Say Nothing and next single Close Enemies also went down brilliantly.
His recent Calvin Harris collaboration We’ll Be Coming Back was good enough to end on, but the crowd jumped ever higher for his anthem and show closer Changed The Way You Kiss Me.
After becoming a firm festival favourite and conquering arenas on his last tour, stadiums could be next for Example if his new album The Evolution Of Man features the “huge guitar riffs” he has promised.
