Jack & Jack Chat ‘Beg’, Reveal The Real House Party Behind The Video In MTV Laid Bare
He actually fell off the roof???
Jack & Jack haven't had their full-length album debut, and yet this hasn’t stopped their tracks becoming HUGE hits with their contagiously catchy melodies and summer vibes, finding international success with hits like Wild Life’ which peaked at 87 on the Billboard Hot 100.
More recently, they released the massively successful single ‘Beg’ last year, and have now collaborated with English producer Jonas Blue on the new hit ‘Rise’.
We caught up with the, now LA based, duo to take us through the making of their house party themed video for ‘Beg’.

The duo, originally from Nebraska, opened up about the behind the scenes of the party in the vid. They had no need to fake the party as it was shot during a real house party they hosted! “It was the last day of our lease before we left for tour, so we actually had a farewell party for our house that we’d had for a whole year” “- and we shot the party in-between actual party scenes”.
Originally, the whole video was supposed to be one single long shot. This had Johnson running as fast as he could from room to room to appear in the right place - which Gilinsky clearly enjoyed - “he was bookin’ it!”.
Jack Johnson went onto explaining the concept behind the music video: “[the] whole vibe of the video is that you’re kind of out of it – you don’t even know you’re in reality” to which Gilinsky added “Our idea of the video is that we’re stuck in the house and begging to get out of it”. We see what ya’ did there Jack!
They went onto elaborate on what inspired them to make the video: “We definitely went through this phase, we feel like, where out in L.A. where we were mis-prioritising going out versus focusing on what we needed to focus on, and so we wanted to make this video symbolic of that”
And it turns out Jack (Johnson) really did fall from the roof towards the end of the music video! Don’t worry, it was scripted and he dropped onto an air mattress – though that doesn’t mean he managed it unscathed: “a few times I hit my legs and only my upper half hit the mattress… I really thought I’d shattered them a few times – my ankle bones”.
They did the bath scene in 10 minutes whilst the others were getting changed! It hadn’t originally been planned to be in the video but they had the idea on the day, tried it out, and ended up keeping it!
Jack & Jack became best friends on the first day of kindergarten when they came to school both wearing the same shirt and bonded over their joint name. They initially found success in comedy via the 6 second video sharing app Vine in 2013 – and only afterwards did they decide to take up a career in music. We’re so glad they did!
