Jade’s Boyfriend Jailed

Jack Tweed gets 18 months for attacking a teenager with a golf club

Jade Goodys live-in boyfriend Jack Tweed has been jailed for 18 months. 21-year-old Tweed, who appeared in last years controversial Celebrity Big Brother alongside Goody, was found guilty of assault at Chelmsford Crown Court this morning (September 1). The news comes just two weeks after Jade was diagnosed with life-threatening cervical cancer. The sentence relates to an incident in December 2006, in which Tweed and his friend James Mattock, 29, attacked Daniel Steele, then 16, after the Celebrity Big Brother contestant was insulted by Steele and a group of friends. The judge, Recorder Mark Lurcraft QC, concluded that Tweed and Mattock decided to teach the teenager a lesson, and set about him with golf clubs and a spray can. Steele suffered injuries to his head, face and chest. "It was a frightening scene and a traumatic experience," said Lurcraft. "You went, it seems to me, with one purpose - to attack and to have a fight." Tweed asked for a suspended sentence so he could care for Goody during her cancer treatment, but was given 18 months in prison. He and Mattock are expected to spend at least nine months behind bars.
