Jake Bugg 'One Direction Dig Nothing Personal’

Singer insists boy band put-down wasn’t meant personally…

SingerJake Bugg has defended negative comments he recently made about One Direction.
Speaking to ShortList, Bugg had suggested that the boys’ international success wasn't deserved because they hadn’t written their own songs.
He also went on to rubbish comparisons between 1D and The Beatles, adding: "I mean, [One Direction] must know they're terrible."
However, when speaking to Gigwise atBushmills Live, he has said that the put-down wasn't meant personally.

"With the One Direction thing you know, it weren't personal," he insisted. "Someone said they were like The Beatles, which I thought, you know, is ridiculous.
"The thing is about The Beatles is they wrote great songs, so it's not a personal thing, it could be about any band.
He added: "Some people do play it safe and it works for some people.

"For me, if someone asks me something I'm gonna give my most honest and truthful answer and I'm not afraid to give my opinion, as long as that doesn't involve anyone personally.
"I don't mind speaking about me personally, but anyone else that's just unfair."

Bugg previously said Harry Styles was "a worthy winner" of the Villain of the Year gong at [uuid=2e03f1c1-fe95-4b0d-b4b0-99c541b3646b]this year's NME Awards[/uuid].
