Jake Gyllenhall was taken to hospital yesterday (November 13) after sustaining an injury on the set of his new film Nightcrawler.
The 32-year-old actor suffered severe cuts to his hand while shooting a scene for the crime drama and is now nursing "numerous stitches".
A rep for the star confirmed the news in a statement to US Weekly, revealing: "Jake was indeed filming Nightcrawler when during the shooting of an intense scene his character purposefully banged his hand into the mirror."
The spokesperson continued: "Unfortunately the mirror broke and Jake's hand was badly cut up."
They added: "He got numerous stitches at the ER and was released. He already returned to set for work."

The Hollywood hunk told E! News last month: "I can only approach things from a mental place.
"Like I'm playing a character who's hungry, figuratively and literally, who's driven in ways to do things and succeed at any cost … so I wanted to get their mentally and then have it transform me physically."
