Jake Gyllenhaal has provoked shock after revealing his gaunt new look at the Hollywood Film Awards last night.
The 32-year-old actor looked like he had aged 15 years as he posed for snappers on the red carpet at the bash, where he was picking up the Hollywood Supporting Actor Award for his role in Prisoners.

And he explained that he had lost a pile of weight for his role in new movie Nightcrawlers, in which he plays a freelance video journalist.
Speaking to Us Weekly about his character in the film, he said: "I knew that [Lou] was literally and figuratively hungry. [I was in a] mode where I was always a bit hungry."
And he stressed that he didn't follow a particular diet, explaining: "I just love this movie. That's how I did it. There really was no technique."
He was also quoted on the subject of his weight loss by People, when asked how much weight he had shed.
"I think probably a little over 20 pounds, something like that. Who's to say what the process is? I have a strange one… but I love what I do."
