James Arthur: "I Don't Fancy My Chances Against Eminem"

EXCLUSIVE! XF star talks taking on the Rap God in the album chart...

James Arthur has revealed he "doesn't fancy" his chances against X Factor champion's self-titled debut LP was released on November 4 - a day before Em unleashed The Marshall Mathers LP 2.

When asked how he feels going head-to-head with Em, J-Arth told MTV News UK: "I don’t really fancy my chances against Eminem…

"I don’t know, I guess we have different markets though – you know he’s bringing out what I imagine would be an insane rap album and I’m bringing out an album that is predominantly about songs - vocals being a singer.

"Hopefully, I’ll just sell a lot of albums, whether I beat Eminem or not is… I’m not even trying to think about that."

The You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You singer added: "The fact that I’m even going up against people like Eminem is an absolute honour and a privilege so I’m just pleased to be in that position."

After previously revealing he was in the [uuid=7655f633-8c68-42a2-b09c-00a1626b5043]process of recording a rap mix tape[/uuid], James said of his own spitting skills: "Before the X Factor, essentially I was a singer who rapped as well. On the X Factor, it’s not necessarily something you can do a lot of is rap.

"I don’t like to water myself down in terms of Hip Hop. Hip Hop’s supposed to be real and honest and I didn’t really want to censor myself on the show. Yeah, rap is a big part of my life, it’s probably the music I listen to the most and I do rap so I’m lending my hand to it a little bit."
