MTV Review: James Bay Makes Our Hearts Melt At Somerset House

We felt all the feels...

James Bay performed at Somerset House last night (July 16) as part of their Summer Series and completely wowed the crowds.

Somerset House is a special venue, and everyone who performs here has the feeling that the shows are in a realm of their own.

James Bay being no different, as he told the crowd that he's heard good things about this venue and the Summer Series shows that happen here.

The warm summer evening made the atmosphere magical as the 24-year-old took to the stage to perform hits from his number one debut album, 'Chaos And The Calm'.

Highlights of the set came from tracks such as 'Best Fake Smile' and 'Move Together' but there were moments where we simply felt all the feels. One track from the album, a love song, Bay prefaced with a story of how it took him two years to write- he then played 'Scars', the mostbeautiful ballad on the record. Put simply, it was totes emosh.

'Let It Go' was a special bonding moment for Bay and his Somerset House crowd. The singer let the crowd belt out one of the chorus' and you could see in his face that he was taken aback by the love (and the volume) coming from the audience. You better get used to it James, you're going to be playing stadiums before long.

Many went into the gig expecting acoustic singer-songwriter vibes, of which there were plenty, but it was the heavier, rockier moments that really got the crowd going. Bay can thrash that guitar like there's no tomorrow, and his voice lends itself well to the huskiness of rock music -'Collide' was a perfect example of this.

As the sky got darker, the crowd were well and truly into it, so when he decided to throw an Alicia Keys cover into the mix, it went up to a whole new level.

Bay covered the Keys classic 'If I Ain't Got You',with his soul filled voice giving it that extra edge. You'd be a fool to tackle an Alicia Keys belter without a voice like James' and he absolutely smashed it. We're sure Alicia would be proud, and he even has the cheekbones to rival hers.

The moment everyone in the crowd had been waiting for finally came as Bay finished his show with hit single 'Hold Back The River'. You can't help but sing along, and stare into James Bay's beautiful eyes…

A truly magical night that melted our hearts.
