Having paid his superhero dues as Superman and dipped a toe in the world of espionage with Mission: Impossible, Henry Cavill is ready to move on to his dream role… that’s right: he wants to play James Bond.

“I would love to do it of course,” said the star, when asked about the possibility of him replacing Daniel Craig as 007. “I think Bond would be a really fun role. It's British, it's cool. I think now that I have my Mission: Impossible badge we can do real stunts and really amp it up as well.”

“Not to say they weren't doing real stunts,” he continues. “I'm just saying it would be fun for me to actually take what I've learnt on this and carry it through to a movie like Bond. I'd love to play a Brit. I don't get to play a Brit very often. So yes, I would love the opportunity and if they were to ask, I would say yes.”

Obviously it’s still early days to be talking about a replacement when Craig still has another outing in the tux left on his contract, but for what it’s worth, Cavill would definitely get our vote. You can see him doing his action-man thing in Mission: Impossible – Fallout in cinemas now.
