And they were joined by a huge supporting cast of famous faces from the worlds of showbiz, sport and fashion.

Tulisa Contostavlos and Dermot O'Leary were in attendance, along with hopefuls from this year's The X Factor.
Cycling queen Victoria Pendleton and Paralympics star Ellie Simmonds were among the representatives of Britain's great sporting achievements, while Naomi Campbell and designer Valentino added a little style to the red carpet.

And 007 star Daniel Craig admitted he was overwhelmed by the scale of the events and the hundreds of cheering fans who had turned out.
Metro quoted him as saying: "I've never been to a premiere like this in my life.
"I feel like a kid in a candy shop tonight. It's a pleasure and an honour. I'm immensely proud – it couldn't be a better setting.
"This is my third premiere now and I've never been excited like this before. It's extraordinary."
Meanwhile, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson have insisted that Adele, who couldn't make it to the premiere because she [uuid=ca792541-200b-4b2d-842b-39745c1fabd3]gave birth last week[/uuid], had always been their first choice for the movie's theme song.
They denied rumours that Muse had been the initial choice - but did admit that they would have liked to work with the late Amy Winehouse.
