James Corden Apologises After Making Jokes About Harvey Weinstein Scandal
The comedian has admitted he was off the mark.
James Corden has apologised for a series of jokes he made about the Harvey Weinstein sexual assault scandal that have since drawn criticism online.
The Late Late Show host drew gasps at the AmfAR charity gala in Los Angeles after making reference to the controversy. "It's a beautiful night here in LA. So beautiful, Harvey Weinstein has already asked tonight up to his hotel to give him a massage," he began.
Let's all get checking out an update from MTV News...
James, who starred in Weinstein produced movie One Chance, continued: "It has been weird this week though, watching Harvey Weinstein in hot water. Ask any of the women who watched him take a bath.
“Harvey Weinstein wanted to come tonight but he’ll settle for whatever potted plant is closest.”
Actor Rose McGowan publicly condemed the comedian's remarks, taking to Twitter to write: "YOU M*********G PIGLET. Hearing the audience's vile roars & laughs show EXACTLY what kind of HOLLYWOOD you really are."
Meanwhile, Italian actor Asia Argento, who alleges that Weinstein raped her, tweeted the video to her 340k audience. She added the caption: “Shame on this pig and everyone who grunted with him.”
Responding to the backlash on social-media, James admitted that his comments were off the mark and offered his apologies to anyone offended by the nature of his jokes.
In a statement on Twitter, he wrote: "To be clear, sexual assault is no laughing matter. I was not trying to make light of Harvey's inexcusable behavior, but to shame him, the abuser, not his victims.
He added: "I am truly sorry for anyone offended, that was never my intention."
