MTV Review: One Chance
James Corden plays original BGT winner Paul Potts in this moving & endearing biopic...
UK Release Date: 25 October 2013
Running Time: 103 minutes
Cast: James Corden, Alexandra Roach, Julie Walters, Colm Meaney, Mackenzie Crook, Jemima Rooper.
Director: David Frankel
Plot: Based on the true story of original Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts (Corden), One Chance follows the talented opera singer's rise to fame. From being bullied at school, to being a shy, Carphone Warehouse shop manager, the flick shows how Potts managed to overcome his run of bad luck to ultimately win BGT in 2007.
Best Scene: Apart from his infamous BGT audition, which saw Potts overcome his shyness to wow judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan, a standout moment was when Paul sang for opera legend Pavarotti - with disastrous / cringeworthy results.
Best One Liner: "I can singgggg" - Paul shouts this from the streets as he gets his voice back after a throat op.
Date Movie Or Mate Movie? Both. Could be the perfect feel-good movie for a first date, or one to watch with your friends. Just get the tissues ready.
Scene Stealer: Apart from SiCo, Holden, Piers and Pavarotti, Corden's portrayal of the down-on-his-luck singer truly steals the show.
Best WTF Moment: Just when you think Potts couldn't get any unluckier, he's mowed down on his bike - breaking pretty much every bone in his body and knocking his confidence even further as Paul has to battle with his demons to get back on stage.
Summary: Overall, One Chance is a real rags to riches tale, as Corden lights up the screen with his endearing portrayal of Potts.
While Paul my have shot to fame on BGT, this film is about his struggle to get his voice heard and the rocky road to fame - not Simon Cowell's talent show, which is a relief seeing as Potts' story is so incredibly entertaining.
MTV Rating: We won't be pressing the red buzzer on this one.
