James Franco has spoken out about the furore that erupted after a 17-year-old Scottish pupil revealed she was chatted up by the star on Instagram.
“I’m embarrassed and I guess I’m just a model of how social media is tricky,” he said during an appearance on Live with Kelly and Michael this morning.
“It’s a way people meet each other today but what I’ve learned, just 'cause I’m new to it, it’s like, you don’t know who’s on the other end. You meet somebody in person and you get a feel for ‘em but you don’t know who you’re talking to [online] and so I used bad judgment and I learned my lesson,” he said.
Yesterday, schoolgirl Lucy Clode exposed her cyber conversation with the 35-year-old movie star, who is currently appearing alongside Leighton Meester in a play on Broadway.
While Franco didn’t explicitly confirm their online exchange, he didn’t deny that he sent the messages either. The star also spoke out about how difficult it is for celebrities to date.
Franco explained: “Unfortunately in my position - I mean I have a very good life - but, not only do I have to go through the embarrassing rituals of meeting someone sometimes, if I do that, it then gets published for the world so its doubly embarrassing.”
