Janelle Monáe has addressed the rumours going around the gossip blogs that she may be gay.

Internet chatter surfaced when people started to pay attention to her 'masculine' wardrobe, consisting of a black suit, tie and saddle shoes.

The ArchAndroid hit-maker claims that the lesbian community have already tried to call her theirs, but she only dates… Androids!?

She told Rolling Stone Magazine: “The lesbian community has tried to claim me, but I only date androids. Nothing like an android, they don’t cheat on you.”

When it comes to her dress sense, there is also a reason behind that too:

“I call it my ‘uniform’. My mother was a janitor and my father collected trash, so I wear a uniform too. I’m trying to open doors for girls who look like myself and have been told they can’t sing about this or that.”
