Janelle Monáe Unveils Stunning New 'I Like That' Music Video
What a woman...
Janelle Monáe may have spent the past few years wowing us on screen (Hidden Figures, Moonlight) but she rose to fame through music. Earlier this year she announced her new album Dirty Computer and since then she's released four brilliant singles.
Yesterday she unveiled the music video for 'I Like That' and much like the song itself, it is nothing short of exquisite.
WATCH JANELLE'S INCREDIBLE 'I LIKE THAT' MUSIC VIDEO HERE...
Depending on my mood or my attitude
Sometimes I wanna roll or stay at home
Walking contradiction, guess I'm factual and fiction
A little crazy, little sexy, little cool
Little rough around the edges but I keep it smooth
I'm always left of center and that's right where I belong
I'm the random minor note you hear in major songs
And I like that
I don't really give a fuck if I was just the only one
Who likes that
I never like to follow, follow, I would rather chase the sun
Oh me, oh me, oh me, oh my
Oh me, oh me, oh me, oh my
Oh me, oh me, oh me, oh my
I like that
I don't care what I look like but I feel good
Better than amazing, and better than I could
Told the whole world, I'm the venom and the antidote
Take a different type of girl to keep the whole world afloat
'Cause I'm crazy and I'm sexy and I'm cool
Little rough around the edges but I keep it smooth
I'm always left of center and that's right where I belong
I'm the random minor note you hear in major songs
And I like that
I don't really give a fuck if I was just the only one
Who likes that
I never like to follow, follow, I would rather chase the sun
Oh me, oh me, oh me, oh my
Oh me, oh me, oh me, oh my
Oh me, oh me, oh me, oh my
I like that
I remember when you called me weird
We was in math class, third row, I was sitting by you
Right before Mr. Ammond's class
'Cause my mom couldn't afford new Js
Polos, thrift store, thrift clothes that was all I knew
Do you remember?
Uh, I remember when you laughed when I cut my perm off
And you rated me a six
I was like, "Damn"
But even back then with the tears in my eyes
I always knew I was the shit
I like that
I don't really give a fuck if I was just the only one
Who likes that
I never like to follow, follow, I would rather chase the sun
Oh me, oh me, oh me, oh my
Oh me, oh me, oh me, oh my
Oh me, oh me, oh me, oh my
I like that
'I Like That' is a glorious ode to ignoring naysayers in your life and embracing self-love. It sees Janelle's voice caress glistening R&B production as she celebrates the complexities of her character. It's nothing short of stunning and its music video is too.
Dressed in a variety of afro-futuristic looks and set in a range of luxurious backdrops, the entire visual is beautiful.
Not to mention, the rapped verse in the milk bath is one of the most striking video sequences of the year so far.
'I Like That' is the fourth single from Janelle's upcoming album Dirty Computer. The highly anticipated LP is out this Friday and Janelle will be debuting its upcoming 44 minute long 'emotion picture' on MTV and BET channels worldwide this Thursday.
"DIRTY COMPUTER: AN EMOTION PICTURE BY JANELLE MONÁE is a visually stunning story of a young woman named Jane 57821 (Janelle Monáe), who is living in a totalitarian near-future society where citizens are referred to as “computers.”
It stars Tessa Thompson (Thor, Selma, Westworld) and it is set to be one of the cultural events of the year.

'Make Me Feel, 'Django Jane', 'Pynk' and 'I Like That' are all remarkable singles.
We have no doubt that Dirty Computer will follow suit. We cannot wait to see it.
