Jay-Z – 'I Had To Help New Orleans'
Jay gets political before checking out the talent in the audience
Jay-Z has spoken about the tragedy in New Orleans, saying he had no choice but to help the victims by donating loads of cash.
Speaking as a guest on today's TRL, the rap legend, who was accompanied on the show by his new signing Teairra Mari, said he was devastated by the scenes of the New Orleans destruction (caused by the hurricane Katrina) that he saw on television.
"I come from a real poor neighborhood," said Jay-Z. "Not a lot of people would help us out when we needed things. So when you see this on CNN, when you see people standing there and taking pictures and not picking up the people who are stranded, you gotta do something.
"I can't stand by and watch that. I'm a human being."
On a lighter note, Jay-Z responded to reports that he splashed out 1.5 million on a ring for his honeypie Beyonce Knowles. "No that's not true," he said to the fit audience member in response to her question, "that's just sensationalized stuff.
"I could by you one though!"
Tune-in to TRL every weekday at 6pm on MTV.
