Jay-Z And Kanye West Begin Watch The Throne Tour

The rap buddies opened their joint tour in Atlanta…

After a long wait, Jay-Z and Kanye West’s joint tour opened in Atlanta on Friday, 28 October.

They opened the show with, of course, H.A.M., the first track that dropped from their Watch The Throne album back in January.

But the performance wasn’t without its glitches – midway through the track, Jay’s earpiece failed and he couldn’t hear the music, which meant his timing was affected and he was rapping off beat. He eventually overcame the glitch during the second song, Who Gon Stop Me, when he signalled to have the music cut so he could finish his rap a capella while the problem was rectified.

From there it was plain sailing as the duo traded verses on joint hits like Otis, before Kanye left the stage and allowed Jay to have solo stage time on Empire State Of Mind and Izzo (H.O.V.A.). Yeezy did the same, running through Tell Me Nothing and Jesus Walks on his own, before being rejoined by Jigga for Diamonds From Sierra Leone.

The two-hour show also included a comical interlude, when three of their classic hits, Big Pimpin’, Gold Digger and 99 Problems, were weaved into a narrative which saw Jay teach his ‘little brother’ Kanye about the opposite sex.

USA Today described the concert was a “visually spectacular” with platforms that rose high above the stage and a non-stop laser display, but it was Kanye’s outfits that stole the show – at one point he wore a leather kilt and glow-in-the-dark Air Yeezy trainers!

The Watch The Throne tour travels across the US and Canada until its final show in Vancouver on 17 December.
