How To Be J-Law’s BFF In Six Easy Steps
Because who doesn't want a bit of Jennifer Lawrence in their lives?
Jennifer Lawrence is at the top of her game as an actress, but on the side, she’s also casually being one of the coolest women in the galaxy. Whether it’s unashamedly geeking out when she meets her favourite actors, talking about her love of pizza and utter loathing of any form of exercise and having no qualms with checking out dudes she likes, J Law is us.
If you saw the photos of her hanging out with Amy Schumer on holiday the other week and thought to yourself “Well it’s all very well for Amy, but how do I become BFFs with J-Law?” then you’re in luck.
We’ve put together the essential, flaw-free six-step plan to help you become best friends with Jennifer Lawrence. Do as we tell you, and you’ll probably* be her bestie in no time.
*MTV accepts no responsibility if you are not Jennifer Lawrence’s best mate in this or any other lifetime.
#1. Be as self-depricating as possible
Part of J-Law’s appeal is that she’s smart and self-aware, and because of that, she manages to pull off self-deprecation like a pro. Whether she’s talking about her body hang-ups, her love of pizza or trying to make light on her mistakes (like falling over on stairs, which she does quite a lot), J Law is all about telling it how it is.
So take a leaf out of her book and stop trying to achieve perfection. If your selfies are a bit naff, that’s fine. If you keep dropping your phone in the toilet, embrace it! (But maybe disinfect it before you ring anyone.)
#2. Be a pop culture junkie
That doesn’t mean you can just retort with the line ‘You know nothing, Jon Snow!’ whenever you feel like it, because that Game of Thrones quote is the most basic GOT quote ever. J-Law loves obscure pop culture references, and these are an essential part of worming your way into her inner circle.
Like, when J-Law got the Golden Globe for Silver Linings Playbook, she made a First Wives Club joke that nobody got, and she ended up having to explain the joke to Letterman at a later date.
#3. Honesty is the best policy
It’s well established at this point that J-Law can wield a bow and arrow like a pro in The Hunger Games movies. But do you know what else she can wield? THE TRUTH. Yes, J-Law is a pro at dealing out harsh truths and if you want to be in her gang, you’ve got to be able to say it how it is and not get all sad when you’re called out on anything.
#4. Embrace your inner fanboy
J-Law is a big deal. And yet she totally loses her cool when she bumps into famouses. Would Anne Hathaway go all melty and delirious if she found herself near Adele? Probably not. Would Zac Efron completely freak out if an older gentleman hit on him in a really creepy way? Nah, he’d probably be really polite about it. Not J-Law.
When she was sat near Adele:
When Jack Nicholson made a creepy remark at her:
When she tried to say hi to Jeff Bridges:
This means if you meet J Law, go beserk. Cry! Fall to your knees! Maybe stop using words and just start making loud noises and flapping your mouth. J Law would totally understand where you are coming from, because that’s what she’s like all the time.
#5. Be a fan of pizza (or at least be prepared to fake liking pizza)
J-Law loves pizza. This is known.
You should too, because people bond over pizza and J Law might be your friend if you can bond over your love of carby, cheesy molten goodness.
#6. Don’t take life too seriously!
One of the most fundamental mantras that J Law lives by is not taking things too seriously. This doesn’t mean abandoning all responsibility - you still need to do grown-up things like pay your rent and throw the milk out when it goes off. J Law might be cool but she doesn’t cruise through life not throwing milk out.
BUT she also makes sure to have a lighter approach to things. Rather than play it safe, she likes to gatecrash other peoples interviews and insinuate that they have weird medical problems, like she did with Hunger Games co-star Josh Hutcherson:
If you can be more chill, you’ll have a much better time getting in the squad.
In conclusion, following these guidelines will not only help you get on J Law’s radar, it will also make your general outlook on life a lot sunnier. The next best thing to being mates with her is basically being her, right?
