Jennifer Lopez Talks To MTV About Her Las Vegas Residency, New Music & More
If you’ve never been to a Jennifer Lopez concert before, first of all, shame on you, and secondly – that can all change thanks to her new DVD.
The star has released a live recording of her epic world tour, ‘Jennifer Lopez: Dance Again’ for European fans, and to celebrate, we caught up with JLo to talk all things music (and even her upcoming Las Vegas residency)…
What was the most challenging thing about shooting your film, Dance Again?
"It’s funny, there weren’t cameras following my every move but it seems like it when you watch the film.
"We filmed the actual show and we had some behind-the-scenes footage, and we realised there was more of a story when we watched it back - of this whole time that was pretty moving."
Hearing classics like ‘Get Right’, ‘If You Had My Love’ and ‘Waiting For Tonight’ is always amazing – do you like revisiting your older tracks?
"Absolutely, I like playing more the big hits than anything, I’m not the artist who goes on tour and goes, 'I have this new record so I’m going to play you all these new songs that you don’t know'.
"I know your supposed to get people to fall in love with those new songs but I am all about hits, hits, hits, and I like to play hits because I know that’s what people want to hear and I want people to have a good time when they come to my show."
You start your residency in Las Vegas next year, what inspired you to hit the famous strip? Can you tell us anything about the shows? How are you hoping to rival the likes of Mariah and Britney?
"I’m super excited for it, all I’m thinking about is creating the show that I’ve always wanted to create.
"Dance Again was the first world tour I went on and it gave you a taste of what I can do on stage. Vegas provides an opportunity because it’s in one place for you really to create anything, the best shows are in Vegas.
"There’s just so many amazing shows its like the sky’s the limit - you can really create something beautiful and that’s what I intend to do.
"I intend to take my music and the hits I’ve had over the years and add some other stuff that people know me for, that I’ve done on stage and have my Latin side, my pop side, my Hip-Hop side, my dance side and all those different things."
Finally, what’s next for you? Can fans maybe expect some new music soon?
"Yeah I’m always working on music, always, always, always. My first show is January 20th of next year so there’s definitely time to release some stuff.
"I'm working on a couple of other things so we’ll see... it'll be an exciting year!"
