Jessica Chastain Denies Captain Marvel Talks

Star takes to Twitter to elaborate on comments in MTV News interview...

When Jessica Chastain told our MTV News colleagues across the pond yesterday that she's been talking to Marvel Studios about playing a superhero, fans put two-and-two together and assumed she was in the frame to play Captain Marvel.

However the Interstellar star has since taken to social media to clarify that she was actually referring to a different role - rather than Carol Danvers.

She had told us: "We've talked about aligning our forces in the future - and here's the thing with me... If you're going to be in a superhero movie, you only get one chance.

"You're that character forever. So why do a superhero movie and play the boring civilian?"

But she also suggested that she'd consider playing a baddie - just so long as she got a snazzy costume and a punch-up.

"Whatever it is, I want a fight scene," she declared. "I could be an incredible villain. I could be a hero. I want a cool outfit, and I want to kick ass."

And as speculation began to mount that she was in line to play Captain Marvel, she stepped in with a tweet to clarify matters.

"Oops uh oh....I've never had talks about Captain Marvel. Was referring to a different film from over a year ago, in my recent MTV interview," she explained.

We wouldn't bet against her being on Marvel's list for the role anyway though.

Captain Marvel will be the studio's first female-led superhero movie and is part of its recently announced raft of "phase three" films.
