Jessica Simpson is a [uuid=7b80a852-e9a6-4a98-9268-e6befef15220]first-time mum[/uuid] after giving birth to a baby girl.

The singer and her fiancé Eric Johnson welcomed little Maxwell Drew Johnson in an LA hospital yesterday (1 May).

Announcing the news on her official website, a statement from Simpson read: "Eric and I are elated to announce the birth of our baby girl, Maxwell Drew Johnson.

"We are so grateful for all of the love, support and prayers we have received. This has been the greatest experience of our lives!!"

The statement also confirmed that Jessica's little bundle of joy weighed in at 9lbs and 13oz.

Jessica's family were later snapped arriving at the hospital where, according to TMZ, mother and baby suites cost up to $4,000 a day.

Sister Ashlee told People magazine: "Bronx and I are in love with Maxwell already! Jessica has wanted to be a mom since we were little girls and I couldn't be more excited for her and Eric!"
