Jessie J Offers Advice For Voice Replacement
EXCLUSIVE! Jessie talks new judge and writing her new album in five weeks…
Tuesday, August 20, 2013 - 15:08
Jessie J wants her replacement as a judge on The Voice UK to dedicate as much time and effort as possibly into mentoring their contestants so the show’s credibility doesn’t suffer.
Speaking to MTV News UK’s Laura Whitmore backstage at V Festival over the weekend the Wild singer revealed her decision to leave was in part down to practicing what she preached:
“I always say we can’t preach that ‘we’re doing it right now and we can give you experience’ and then if we were available to do the show every year then we are not as successful as we should be to teach people how to be successful in my opinion.”
She also confirmed to Laura her forthcoming tour schedule was also the remaining factor in her leaving the talent show: “It was nothing to do with show,” she began. “I’d love to do it again but I have a tour, which is about 40 dates long in 42 filming dates of The Voice. There was no way that I was letting my fans down, they are the priority.
“For me, it’s about the artist …it’s important that I take on a role, I want to be good at it so if I’m not going to be able to be there, nah I’m not going to be one of the coaches that doesn’t turn up and then nah - even though that’s what the press said anyway so I could have just done that and it would have been the same thing!”
She added: “I’ve loved doing two series I’ve given everything to that show and I think it’s about time someone else filled the seat.”
On who could replace her Jessie said: “I’ve heard rumours of various people. Kylie Minogue I’ve heard. I’ve heard Annie Lennox. I’ve heard Lulu.
“I want it to be someone great and I want it to be someone who can dedicate their time to the show and is polite and looks after themselves and their artists and who enjoys it. I don’t want anyone that’s gonna change the credibility of the show that’s all.”
At this year’s V Festival, Jessie unveiled the title of her forthcoming album Alive telling Laura it’s a lot more ‘mature’ than her previous album and she wrote it in five weeks!
“I had five weeks to write this album. I’d go, ‘right I’ve got today to write a song’. If something’s not very good, [I’d] scrap it and start again and I work with some amazing people.
“Claude Kelly, my executive producer who I wrote every song I’ve had that’s done well with, he’s here today so again it was just the right people here to be able to support and celebrate today.”
