JLS: ‘There’s Never Been A Group Like Us’

Speaking exclusively to MTV News UK in what could be our last ever interview with the band, when quizzed on whether any bands out there could fill the JLS-shaped hole, Williams told us: 

 

“I think it’s difficult [to say], you know. What we did, we were the first to ever do it [and] we’ve seen on X Factor, this year in particular, you see bands that put themselves together based on the formula of us four, you know - one person back flipping and trying to get their harmonies in and…you can’t be a blatant copy of a band that, let’s face it were very successful, do you know what I mean?”

 

 

He continued: “To me you can be inspired, and find little elements that you like and inspire you but then you have to merge it and create your own situation. 

 

“There’s never been a group like us. We’ve got influences and we’re a product of our influences but there hasn’t been a group like us you know, you can’t just copy you know? You have to find your own niche. So to say someone’s going to fill the JLS void? I don’t think so, but there’s still room for maybe a group in the kind of avenue of music that we do potentially.”

 

The band who are currently on tour performing the final handful of live shows, also took the time to remember the funnier side of being on stage…

 

Aston recalled: “In a show Marvin slipped over in front of 80,000 people!” 

 

Oritsé also remembered: “Or the one where Marvin got stuck up in the roof when we were in harnesses and we’re doing a fly sequence during our last tour and he got stuck in the roof!”

 

“…or when JB jumped into a speaker!” Aston also chimed in.

 

And with their Greatest Hits album and tour DVD out now what does JB think was their greatest hit? 

 

“Love You More. It’s the first single that we wrote that went to No.1 so for me that’s gotta be the greatest hit.”
